LeClaire Annual Witches Walk 2012

Last weekend was the Annual LeClaire Witches Walk.
Each year for Halloween our town has a fun filled event for the kiddos.
Witches Walk is a free event that the local businesses and
volunteers sponsor to give back to our community.

We have a costume contest for the kids & give out lots of prizes!
We keep the little ones entertained with a petting zoo, train rides, & clowns.
For the last few years I have been a volunteer & one of the event planners for the occasion.

All the kiddos line up and parade through the downtown on main street.
The shopkeepers pass out candy for our Witches Walkers.
So much fun!!!

This hot air ballon costume was one of my absolute favorites this year!
Isn't she absolutely adorable?
There were so many creative costumes this year!
It was great to see so many talented people really support the event.
Everyone had a really great time!
That is what it's all about.
A fun filled afternoon for our community:)
The Petting Zoo has been a main attraction the last few years.
A local couple brings in their animals that they have on a large farm.
They travel with the petting zoo for local events.
It is such a big hit!

One of the things I love about Fall in LeClaire are the vibrant colors of the Mums.
As you stroll down main street in downtown LeClaire,
you can't help but be charmed by the stunning display of Fall Mums this time of year.
Aren't they fabulous?
The Faithful Pilot
Primitive Cottage
Wide River Winery

The perfect stop for a tasting on my Fall afternoon stroll.

We are helping to put on the event again this year!

Dwellings ~ Fall Storefront 2012

Each year the shops of downtown LeClaire decorate their storefronts for Fall.
I thought I would share the Dwellings storefront with you.
It's been Mummified!

Each year about this time Dwellings gets a SPOOKY visitor.
Scarecrows, sailor boy & this year a MUMMY is our spooky guest.
You can check out last year's here.

Just wanted to share & charming part of what I love about small town living!

Fresh Fall

fresh kale

{FRESH FALL}

There are so many things I love about the Fall.
One of my favorites is the abundance of warm textures of freshly grown produce.
Perfect for simple outdoor decor or a centepiece at your farmhouse feast.
heirloom pumpkin

gourds & potted mums

One of the things that I love best about Fresh Fall touches is,
it's a very inexpensive way to add the perfect festive seasonal decor inside & out.

Apple Fest ~ Today in LeClaire

Today in LeClaire.
Our Annual Fall Apple Fest is today in historic LeClaire.
There will be craft & baked good vendors.
Local growers will bring in apple bushels & lots more.

Now...if the rain would just go away & come back another day that would be great!

{Heirloom Pumpkins}

I just love the unique variety of cross bread pumpkins that are available in the Fall.
They are so simple yet festive of the season.

Penny Waters Studio in downtown LeClaire has them available for sale.
She actually gets them through a local grower at a farm near our town.
If you are near LeClaire stop in to pick some up!

So many uniquely different styles.
I think my favorite are the stackable ones.

Lake Geneva ~ End of Summer / Early Fall Getaway

Last week Travis & I celebrated our 3 Year Anniversary on Wednesday 9/12/12.
We decided to take a well deserved break from our hectic daily lives & getaway.
We spent last weekend in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
The Newport of the West.

We arrived early Friday afternoon to the French Country Inn.
What a charming bed & breakfast located just outside of
downtown Lake Geneva on Lake Como.

The old inn had everything we look for in a relaxing getaway.
I love to stay just off the beaten path & away from the hustle & bustle.
Always looking for the perfect quaint & charming place
with loads of character to set the mood for our trip.

A real getaway...

Where we could wake up to scenes like this.

On Saturday morning we headed into town to Lake Geneva to be tourists.
We took in the sites of beautiful Lake Geneva.
The Rivera.
Located in the heart of downtown Lake Geneva.
Saturday morning we decided to take a historic tour of the lake.

The Polaris.

All Aboard!
The Walworth.

We took the historic U.S. Mail Boat Tour on the Walworth.
We boarded the 2 hour excursion for a tour of Lake Geneva.
It is a historic tradition on the Lake that still holds true today.
Several historic homes have their mail delivered right to their docks by carriers.
It was absolutely unbelievable to see so many of the Summer homes and estates
for many of Chicago's wealthiest businessmen and women.

Unfortunately, we sat inside the boat on the lower deck, so I don't have photos of the homes to share.
Next time...I promise!

After our boat tour we headed to Pier 290 in Williams Bay.
Just on the other side of Lake Geneva.

We had the best seafood in the Midwest.
Travis had oysters on the half shell & I had my first lobster roll.
And of course a Wisconsin cheddar soup that was delicious.

I was completely taken away by the aesthetic & decor.
I was trying to be discreet & take just a couple photos.
However, I could have shot every single angle.
I love the modern nautical, casual yet sophisticated interior design.

We had a fantastic weekend away celebrating our 3 Year Anniversary!
Lake Geneva was well worth the trip.
