Candlelight ~ On the River

We have had an absolutely unbearable heat wave here in the Midwest for the past two weeks.
Well, on Saturday we finally had enough.
We left behind the never ending list of projects of our renovation life & took some us time.
We headed North of LeClaire along the Mississippi River about 25 minutes.
We had lunch at the Candlelight.

We had never been here before, although we had heard that it was a great trip by boat.
Unfortunately, we have not got our feet wet just yet to become boaters.
Someday very soon after the renovation is complete on our house, I'm sure a boat will be next.
Afterall, why not when you live your life on a great stetch of little rivertowns.
But for now, we settled for the relaxed drive through the country alongside the river.

A view of the restaurant from the docks.
They actually had an excellent menu.
We were both totally in the mood for seafood.  We were so pleased to find this little hidden gem.
This will definitely be a new regular on our list.
We love to find out of the way local places to eat.
This was a perfect casual relaxing lunch & little afternoon getaway.
A view of the docks.

The lighthouse.

My impatient husband letting me know that it's getting way to hot & our trip was about to end.
We were so full.  I think he was ready for an afternoon nap.

The heat wave finally ended the following day.  Thank goodness!!!
Don't worry....we were right back at it, on our renovation bright & early Sunday morning.
I have learned one thing while living life through a renovation.
It is still important to take time for you no matter what.
The list of projects will still be there waiting when you return, revived, refreshed & ready to go.

Fresh Summer Scents

Coast by Hillhouse Naturals

Here are a few of my favorite Summer scents available Summer 2012 at Dwellings.
I love to have a few fresh scents around the house each new Season.
Speciality candles make the perfect hostess or shower gifts for any occassion.
I even keep a few around the house for an impromptu dinner party or small thank you in a pinch.
Most of the candles shown here range from $18-28, a great price for a small upscale gift.

I hope you don't mind my Dwellings updates periodically on my blog.
My brother's shop is a big part of my life.
It also gives me a place to work on my photography skills a bit & showcase my creativity.
I have been doing all the photos & updates for Dwellings on Facebook this year.
I really enjoy getting to help out my brother while doing something that I love.
So, just in case you are wondering why I am always posting about Dwellings lately,
I thought I would fill you in a little.
I constantly get questions about whether or not Dwellings has a website.
Unfortunately, at this time we do not.
It is definitely a  big goal to be online in the somewhat near future.
I am very excited to say that I will also be a part of the website development & launch eventually.
But, unfortunately for now....you will have to settle for my photos unless
you are willing to make a trip to LeClaire, Iowa & visit Dwellings in person.

Quaint Country Cottage ~ Living Room Update at my Mom's

My Mother's Living Room got a charming cottage refresh today.
Every few months or so my Mom will get the urge for some small updates.
Well, this one turned out to be a little more than most.
It also turned out to be, what I believe she has been looking for all along in this house.
A  cheery, quaint country cottage look to come home to everyday.

The curtains were made for my Mom by her dear friend Marge.
They really were the inspiration for the entire room.
Michael collected several new decorative items that were sure to be just the touch.
Some new, some old, some thrift store finds.
He spent the day freshening up all around.
Painting...Painting...redoing...decorating.
What a great surprise for her to come home to today.

She actually knew he was changing a few things around, but
I think she truly enjoyed the finished product.
It seems to be the most like "her" this home has ever been.
I think at times my brother & myself also stear her off course just a bit too.
We are a bit more minimalist than she is, though we like a great cottage look as much as the next.
Always on a budget, this room has never felt completly finished.
It had good bones to start with.
A casual blue striped slipcovered sofa, denim slipcovered chair, a few junk store chests, & tables.

I really think this time it turned out perfect.
The fresh pops of yellow, blue & green are very refreshing.
He  even brought in the two white end tables next to the sofa that my Dad made years ago.
My Mom is planning a small get together for a few friends for next week.
I have been helping with some of the details.
But, like most of us would,
she wanted to freshen up the house a bit before her guests arrived.

I'm so glad she did!
I hope she really enjoys this new space & feels at right at home in this new cozy living room.

I think Lucy approves:)

Hope you love your refreshed living room Mom!

For those of you who don't know we are currently staying at my Mom's,
